Recovery with change of heart

To make it brief............
I met a man that was a meth addict for over 10yrs...He was married and it was an unhappy marriage. For the first 2yrs he was still using. In our 3rd year he came to live with me and stopped the drug all together.
During that time he did get a divorce. I use to think he loved me and wanted to marry me...however, since his divorce he has said that marriage is not in our future any time soon, and the only reason it was is because of the meth and that it made him make abrupt decisions. He has expressed a "regret" that his marriage failed. He blames all of our problems now on his meth use and says that now he has a change of heart.
How am I suppose to feel??? I'm deeply hurt and confused.
Do recovering meth addicts experience this type of change of heart?
